How we build it

No-Dig Fence Installation done right

No-dig describes how the posts are installed, not a fence with no foundation. A driven post system transfers fence loads into the surrounding soil without excavating and backfilling a hole at every post. Post dimensions, embedment, spacing, reinforcement and attachment details must suit the chosen fence system and the property. We assess those details during your estimate rather than choosing a method from a photo alone.

Frost heave happens when freezing soil and moisture move a foundation. Driving posts below the local frost depth is part of our standard, but depth alone is not a guarantee against movement. Soil, drainage and the manufacturer's installation requirements also matter. There is no single depth we promise for every property: the site and system determine the final installation.

Wind pushes harder on a solid privacy panel than an open aluminum or chain link fence. We consider fence height, exposure, post spacing and gate loads before selecting the posts and reinforcement. No-dig does not mean storm-proof, and a concrete footing does not automatically make an undersized post safe. Either method needs a system appropriate to the expected loads.

Wet ground needs its own assessment. Undisturbed soil provides support, but persistently saturated or soft soil can lose strength. We check drainage, fill, slopes and the proposed fence line. If those conditions do not suit a driven system, we explain the alternative, which may include a different foundation detail or dig-and-set in concrete. We do not promise the same method works in every yard.

Rock or buried obstructions can prevent a post from reaching the required depth. In that situation we stop and evaluate rather than leaving it shallow. Dig-and-set is our secondary method for rocky ground or other site-specific requirements. Utility locates and disclosure of private underground lines are needed for driven posts as well as excavated holes.

For a suitable site, no-dig avoids spoil piles and the lawn disturbance associated with excavating every post hole. Fence removal, drainage work or other selected services can still disturb the yard; those are separate parts of the scope. Your written estimate identifies the installation method and any site work before you approve the project.

Common questions

No-Dig Fence Installation FAQ

Does a no-dig fence work in Pennsylvania winters?
It can when the system is appropriate for the site and installed correctly. D2K drives posts below local frost depth and considers soil, moisture and manufacturer requirements. No installation method eliminates every risk of ground movement.
Will no-dig posts hold a privacy fence in strong wind?
Wind resistance depends on the complete fence system, including post size, depth, spacing, panel height and exposure. We assess those loads and reinforcement during the estimate; we do not make a universal wind-speed or storm-proof claim.
Can you use no-dig posts in wet soil?
Sometimes, but persistently saturated or soft ground needs assessment. Drainage and soil strength determine whether a driven post system is suitable or an alternative foundation is needed.
When does D2K use dig-and-set in concrete?
Dig-and-set is a secondary method for rocky ground, obstructions or specific site requirements. It remains an option for vinyl, aluminum and chain link when the property calls for it.
Do no-dig fences still need utility marking?
Yes. A driven post penetrates the ground. Utility locates and identification of private underground lines are important before either method starts.

“Brandon and his crew installed a new deck and fence at our house - a long overdue project! We are thrilled with both. His team is professional, friendly, and they work extremely hard. The bid was right in the ballpark of what we expected, the work was completed in a timely manner, and they were very good about cleaning up the work site when the jobs were finished. We would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone seeking deck, fencing, and rail services.”
