What's the difference between a paver patio and stamped concrete, and which is better for a backyard in York County?
A paver patio is built from individual units set on a compacted stone base, so joints move with the ground and single pavers can be lifted and reset. Stamped concrete is one continuous slab with a pattern pressed into the surface, giving a seamless look with no joints for weeds. Neither is better everywhere — pavers win on repairability and design range, stamped concrete wins on continuity and a uniform surface.

What we look at on the site visit
- Drainage and grade: Where water leaves the patio, how far it is from the foundation, and whether a channel drain or outlet is needed.
- Soil and settlement: Wet clay and disturbed backfill near a newer home change the base plan for either product.
- Use: Grill and seating zones, door swings, hot tub loads, pool surround and traffic patterns.
- Adjacent work: Whether the patio connects to a deck, walkway, seat wall, fire pit or fence line — those transitions get designed at the same time.
