Fence Repair & Gate Service

Not every fence problem needs a new fence. Wind takes out a section, a post rots at grade, a gate drops and drags, a car finds the corner post. We repair what can be repaired and are direct with you when the smarter money is a replacement run instead of another patch on a failing line.

Common work includes resetting or replacing posts in concrete, swapping damaged vinyl panels and aluminum sections, re-tensioning chain link fabric, replacing top rail and fittings, straightening leaning runs, and rebuilding gates that have racked out of square. On gates we also replace hinges, latches, drop rods and self-closing pool hardware, and we service automatic drive gate openers, loops and safety devices.

Most repair calls trace back to one of four causes, and knowing which one you have tells you what the fix costs. Post failure is the most common: a post set too shallow, backfilled with dirt instead of concrete, or rotted at grade will lean after a few Central Pennsylvania freeze-thaw cycles, and the panels on either side get pulled out of line with it. Wind damage is second — a solid 6' privacy panel catches air like a sail, so storms usually break the post rather than the panel. Impact is third, from a vehicle, a mower, or a limb. Fourth is simple hardware fatigue, which is what turns a gate that used to latch into a gate that drags.

Chain link has its own repair vocabulary. Fabric stretches loose over the years, top rail pulls out of the sleeve, tension bands and ties rust through, and gate frames rack out of square from being pulled shut a few thousand times. We re-tension fabric with a come-along instead of pulling it by hand, replace rail and fittings, and add a bottom rail or tension wire when dogs are pushing under the line. On vinyl, replacing a single panel and resetting the two neighboring posts is frequently a one-visit fix.

We are also honest about when repair stops making sense. If posts are failing along the entire run, if the panel profile has been discontinued and cannot be matched, or if the repair cost is approaching a meaningful share of replacing that run, we will tell you and quote the replacement instead. Patching a fence that is failing end to end is money you spend twice.

For storm and vehicle damage we photograph and itemize the damage in the format insurance adjusters ask for, which makes a claim on a downed section far less of a fight. And for pool enclosures we prioritize scheduling, because an open pool barrier is a safety and compliance issue, not a cosmetic one — we restore the enclosure and verify the self-closing, self-latching gate hardware before we leave.
