Deck Resurfacing & Deck Replacement
New composite decking and railing over a sound existing frame — the fastest way to retire a splintering wood deck without a full rebuild.
How we build it
Deck Resurfacing done right
A lot of tired decks are only tired on top. The pressure-treated frame and footings underneath are often perfectly sound while the walking surface has gone grey, splintered and cupped from fifteen years of sun and stain. Resurfacing strips the old boards and railing, leaves the structure in place, and replaces the surface with composite or PVC decking and a new railing system. When the frame checks out it costs meaningfully less than a rebuild and takes a fraction of the time.
Whether it checks out is a question we answer honestly before quoting. We pull a few boards and inspect the ledger and its flashing, the joists and joist hangers, the beam, the posts at grade, and the footings. Common findings are an unflashed ledger, joist spacing too wide for composite decking, rot where a post meets a pier, or hangers full of the wrong fasteners. Some of those are correctable — sistering joists, adding blocking, re-flashing — and some mean the honest answer is a rebuild. We tell you which one you have and price it that way rather than hiding a structural problem under new boards.
The finished result is a new deck from the surface up: hidden-fastener composite or PVC decking, picture framing at the perimeter, wrapped posts and fascia, and vinyl, aluminum or composite railing sized to code with graspable handrail on the stairs. Add post cap or riser lighting while the railing is off and the deck stays usable after dark. Most resurfacing jobs finish in a few days, and the cleanup includes hauling the old lumber away.

Common questions
Deck Resurfacing FAQ
- Can any deck be resurfaced?
- Only decks with a sound frame, footings and ledger. We inspect first and will tell you plainly if the structure needs replacement instead — we do not put new boards over a bad frame.
- How much cheaper is resurfacing than a rebuild?
- It varies with the size and how much frame correction is needed, but keeping sound footings and framing removes a large share of both the material and the labor.
- Do I need a permit to resurface?
- Usually not for a like-for-like surface replacement, but it depends on your township and on whether framing is altered. We check before we start.
- How long does resurfacing take?
- Most residential decks are stripped and re-decked in two to four working days once material is on site.

"Brandon and his crew installed a new deck and fence at our house - a long overdue project! We are thrilled with both. His team is professional, friendly, and they work extremely hard. The bid was right in the ballpark of what we expected, the work was completed in a timely manner, and they were very good about cleaning up the work site when the jobs were finished. We would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone seeking deck, fencing, and rail services."

The fence looks amazing, feels solid, and completely transformed the look of our yard. The patio turned out even better than we imagined — clean, level, and beautifully finished."
"Brandon is fantastic. He did all the leg work and kept us updated prior to and during our project. Brandon got the ball rolling with his crew and got our fence installed as anticipated. We're extremely happy with the turnout, the quality and craftsmanship Brandon and his crew provided. We highly recommend D2K and our pups do too!!"
